ATP - ATP Stuttgart Open
Prediction :
Match to produce three sets
Alex Michelsen and Gael Monfils will face off for the first time ever in the first round at the Stuttgart Open. This match will produce the opponent for Justin Engel or James Duckworth. Read on for our prediction.
World No. 35 Michelsen is coming from a dismal showing at the French Open. He was beaten in straight sets by Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round.
That marked his third straight defeat and also the third time on the bounce that he failed to last more than one game at a competition. These defeats came right off the back of winning the Estoril Challenger, and he will be looking to rediscover that form.
Monfils is also coming here off a shaky run. He lasted one more round at the French Open after beating Hugo Delien in five sets.
His second-round meeting with Jack Draper was always going to be a daunting task, and it was, as he lost in four sets. Monfils only failed to win a set in two of his last completed nine matches.
He comes here on three defeats in the last four matches; that’s inclusive of his walkover to Andrey Rublev at the Madrid Masters. The Frenchman has pedigree at this ATP event, having graced the final in 2011.
After a six-year absence, he returns to Stuttgart hoping for a better run.

Monfils returns to the Stuttgart Open for the first time since 2019 and hopes to go all the way and better his runner-up finish in 2010. He will know, though, that it is in the first and second rounds that he has lost the most at this event.
Michelsen will be aware of the same detail and will be looking to frustrate the Frenchman. We expect a big battle here, as neither player is having a straightforward season. Michelsen looks to break from a run of three straight losses, and Monfils from three defeats in four. Our prediction for Alex Michelsen v Gael Monfils is for the match to produce three sets.
