A coaching change, hard luck, and switching to grass are among the issues Stefanos Tsitsipas is battling ahead of his second-round match against Alex Michelsen at ATP Halle. Bookie predictions don’t look too good for him going into his third career meeting with Michelsen.
The Greek No. 1 marked the start to life with new coach Goran Ivanisevic with a win against Luciano Darderi in the opening round.
However, it was not a smooth one, as he was pushed to three sets and needed a tiebreaker to sail through. It also emerged that he may be carrying a back injury, as he needed a medical timeout.
As Tsitsipas banks on a new coaching regime to impact his season, Michelsen is hereby eyeing a third straight win against the Greek. The American’s only title this season was won in the Challenger circuit at Estoril, and he’d want to claim one on the tour.
Consistency is what has seriously lacked in Michelsen’s season, and he knows this must be addressed. Having risen from a set down to beat Francisco Cerundolo last time out, he will be confident of securing a second straight win for the first time since winning in Estoril.
Michelsen has registered a 19-14 record so far. His debut here last season ended in the first round.
