Europe - Euro U21
Prediction :
Both teams to score
After scraping through the group stages, England U21 and the Netherlands U21 are through to the last four at the Euro U21 Championship. England, second-place finishers in Group B, were tipped to struggle against Spain, but they easily inflicted pain on La Rojita in the quarter-finals. Bookie predictions may favor them more after overcoming a tough opponent, but the Netherlands are not to be underrated either.
They will arrive for this game also having eliminated a favorite in the quarter-finals. Despite finishing the quarter-final match against Portugal with 10 men, the Dutch showed resilience that defied their ages in this game.
The two nations had tough starts and only managed a win apiece at the group stage. In fact, they qualified for the knockout stages with the lowest tally of points: each with four. That doesn’t matter anymore as England goes into their 11th semi-final and the Dutch their seventh at the U21 level.

James McAtee was presented the choice to go with Manchester City to the Club World Cup or stay with England U21. He picked country first, and as skipper, this decision has proven to be key.
He opened the scoring for the Young Lions in the quarters, netting his sixth in 11 matches for the U21s. Another key member of this team is Harvey Elliott. A member of the 2023 title-winning team, the Liverpool man has influenced matters in attack not just with his two goals.
He has made 127 successful passes, an average of 80.9% pass accuracy, and created seven big chances.
A red card was flashed in each of these two teams’ quarter-final matches.
The Netherlands’ quest for another U21 title was made harder by the sending off of AZ Alkmaar forward Ruben van Bommel against Portugal. The 20-year-old lasted just 21 minutes in the game, and now Michael Reiziger has to not only seek an alternative from within but also consider switching from 4-3-3.
Van Bommel, who has three goals in 14 matches for the U21s, had already assisted one goal here.
One option for the coach would be to use Groningen’s Luciano Valente in a more advanced position. Valente has scored twice and assisted once at this tournament.
The Netherlands are coming off two very organized defensive performances. They scored and kept clan sheets in those matches, showing their other strength. However, in most of their games, both teams got on the score sheet.
Facing the defending champions will call for an effort defensively, but they’ll be stretched as they have to attack as well. England has managed just one clean sheet but has an array of talent in attack to lift the team. Our prediction for England U21 v Netherlands U21 is for both teams to score.
Draw
England, despite their strength in youth systems and regularly churning out players for such competitions, has never beaten the Netherlands at the U21 level. However, they’ve only lost once in the six meetings between them. With both nations expected to play cautiously here, our second bet is for a draw.
