Europe - Women's Euro
Prediction :
Both teams to score
England will look to make it back-to-back finals as they play dark horses Italy on Tuesday in Geneva in the first semi-final of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 competition. This match between the Lionesses and Le Azzurre comes with our prediction of goals from both teams. The winner will progress to the final on July 27 to play the winner of the second semi-final, which will be played between Germany and Spain.
The defending champions, England, rallied from 2-0 down to level 2-2 in regular time and then won via penalties against Sweden in the quarter-final. The loss further amplified concerns about their defensive struggles, which Italy could look to take advantage of. The Italians scored first in each of their four matches in this Euros edition and will look to put England under more pressure.
On offer is a chance for Italy to reach the final of this competition for the first time since 1997, while England are in their seventh appearance at this stage of the Euros. Which side will the wind blow? Read further for our analysis, team news, and match predictions.

Formation : 4 - 3 - 3
Formation : 3 - 5 - 2
England are going through a few fitness concerns, not the least around their captain, Leah Williamson. The Lionesses are still optimistic that she will play, while niggles for Lucy Bronze and Lauren James in the win against Sweden remain concerns.
Chloe Kelly had a great impact for England coming off the bench against Sweden and could be set for a starting role. Jess Carter’s struggles in the defensive unit may prompt a reshuffle. Their 4-3-3 formation could still hinge on Alessia Russo’s impact as the central striker, aiming to add to her stats of one goal and three assists here.
Italy’s fortunes revolve around Cristiana Girelli, who netted three goals in this competition!
Those include two in the quarter-final for the 35-year-old, and the Italians could go aggressive with their 3-4-3 formation or control the midfield with a 3-5-2 system. They have even lined up in a 4-4-1-1 system, and Girelli’s performance has been central to their winning chances.
Ariana Caruso and Manuela Guigliano could be crucial to Italy’s chances if they line up in a defensive formation, especially as they start right behind Girelli and are likely to control the centre of the pitch.
England made a miraculous recovery from being two goals down to defeat Sweden via penalties. While the confidence will be high for the defending champions, there are enough concerns in the camp about their defensive struggles. Italy have opened the scoring in all four of their matches in the Euros so far and will fancy their chances of doing so once again here.
With both England and Italy coming to the semis boosted by a rich scoring form, there are bound to be goals here. Our England W vs Italy W prediction is both teams to score.
Alessia Russo to score anytime
Alessia Russo continues to be the fulcrum of England’s attack, although she couldn’t get a goal during regular time against Sweden. She did score one in the penalty shootout, and that made it four goals and four assists for Russo in her last six national games. She looks primed to add more here.
