World - FIFA Club World Cup
Prediction :
Both teams to score
Group E at the FIFA Club World Cup will be decided by a top-of-the-table clash between Inter Milan and River Plate at Lumen Field on Thursday morning (GMT). Los Millionarios and I Nerazzurri are locked on four points apiece and in first and second place in the group standings, respectively. Check out our match prediction below.
Given that these teams are two points above third-placed Monterrey, there are several potential qualification scenarios at play. The simplest being that a win for either of these sides will see that team qualify for the knockout round as group winners. A draw will be enough for both to progress, provided Monterrey lose or draw their match.
If Inter and River Plate draw 0-0 and Monterrey win their match, the Mexican outfit will qualify alongside Inter. If this match ends 1-1, Monterrey will need to win by 2+ goals for the ”goals scored” tiebreaker to come into play between River Plate and Monterrey. A loss for either team in this match and a win for Monterrey would send Monterrey through in second place. Got it? Let’s get into the key stats.

Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard both pulled out of Inter’s squad for the match against Urawa. Hakan Calhanoglu, Piotr Zielinski, Denzel Dumfries, Davide Frattesi and Yann Bisseck all missed the match through injury as well.
However, Italian media reports suggest that Dumfries, Calhanoglu and Frattesi have trained with the group and are in contention to return to action for this match.
Skipper Lautaro Martinez has scored in both matches so far and will almost certainly spearhead the attack, with Sebastiano Esposito likely to partner him in Thuram’s absence.
River Plate have three players suspended for this match!
The first is midfielder Kevin Castano, who was sent off for a second bookable offence in the dying moments of stoppage time against Monterrey. Enzo Perez and Giuliano Galoppo were shown their second yellows of the competition in the same match, which equates to a one-match ban.
Notably, the aforementioned were the starting midfield trio for River Plate in the last match; thus, Marcelo Gallardo will be forced into a major restructuring in his team’s engine room.
However, the Argentine boss will not have to ponder too deeply about his attacking options, with Facundo Colido netting in the first half of both games so far.
While Inter Milan ended the Serie A season with the second-best defensive record in the division, they have been conceding cheaply of late. They shipped five in the UCL final against PSG and conceded first in both matches in this competition.
That will encourage River Plate to go at the Italians in this match, but they themselves are a little vulnerable, with three of their key midfielders set to sit out this clash through suspension. Our Inter Milan vs River Plate prediction is both teams to score.
Over 2.5
Inter Milan have scored two or more goals in five of their last seven matches in all competitions, but have only kept one clean sheet in their last five games. Eight of River Plate’s last 11 matches have ended with three or more goals scored.
