ATP - ATP Washington Citi Open
Prediction :
Giron to win in three sets
The North American hardcourt swing is here with the main draw getting underway on Monday. Among the picks for the day, Marcos Giron meets Jaume Munar in the opening round. Here’s our prediction for this match, marking the third meeting between the two.
Giron returns to action after his early exit at Wimbledon, where he lost in four sets to Jakub Mensik. The American starts off at the Citi Open placed 57th in the live rank and looks to rise from a shaky 17-16 record for the season.
The world No. 46 missed the 2024 edition. Now making his fourth appearance at this event, he hopes to finally be able to go past the second round.
Jaume Munar, ranked 51st in the world is only making his Washington debut. He hasn’t been in action since his third-round defeat at Wimbledon at the hands of Marin Cilic.
The Spaniard starts off his Washington campaign sitting 49th in the live rankings. Like his opponent, Munar hasn’t had a dominant season, so far compiling a 17-17 win/loss record. He has, however, reached two semi-finals this season; in Hong Kong and Dallas.
Slow starts have seen Munar lose six times in the first round this season. The winner from this encounter will face off with 12th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina next.

There’s no clear favorite between these two based on recent performances, but Giron might just have an edge. He is coming off three wins in his last five outings, one better than Munar, who is making his debut here.
Giron also won their only hardcourt meeting, four years ago in Sofia and has six wins in his last 10 hardcourt matches. Munar is, however a battler, and will definitely push Giron, who has conceded at least a set in four of six hardcourt matches. Our prediction for Jaume Munar v Marcos Giron is for Giron to win in three sets.
