WTA - WTA Eastbourne International
Prediction :
Rebecca Sramkova to win
Eighth-seeded Rebecca Sramkova reached the last four in Nottingham last week. Now the 28-year-old heads south to Eastbourne to face Jaqueline Cristian in round one of the Eastbourne International. Here's our prediction of this grass court match.
Sramkova has only just missed out on being seeded at Wimbledon. Her run to the Nottingham semi-finals has taken the Slovak player to 34th in the live rankings which is a career-high.
Both Linda Noskova and Yulia Putintseva were beaten last week before losing to eventual champion McCartney Kessler. Sramkova has never won a main draw match at Wimbledon. Sramkova leads Cristian 3-1 in previous matches but all were played on clay.
Unseeded opposition will be faced by the winner in round two. That'll be either qualifier Varvara Gracheva or Camila Osorio.
Jaqueline Cristian is at 50th in the live rankings, just one place below her career-high. The Romanian didn't have such an enjoyable time in Nottingham as Sramkova. Cristian lost to Olivia Gadecki in the first qualifying round.
That took her grass court record to a disappointing 2-10. One of her wins came when reaching round two at Wimbledon in 2023. Her best form has come on clay with a recent final in Rabat. We tip Sramkova to win this match.

The only defeat Rebecca Sramkova has had inflicted on her by Cristian was in their last match two years ago. However, that was on clay and Sramkova retired in set two. Now they meet again in very different circumstances and Cristian has a tough task on her hands.
The Romanian does not have a good record on this surface, while her opponent was a semi-finalist in Nottingham last week. Our Rebecca Sramkova v Jaqueline Cristian prediction is Rebecca Sramkova to win.
